For quite a while I have been a great admirer of the English gardens created by garden designers like Lancelot "Capability" Brown and Gertrude Jekyll. But Japanese gardens are different. Only within the last few years I have come to appreciate the special aesthetics of these gardens, their strictness, their clarity and invitation to linger and contemplate.

The Japanese garden in Freiburg is a generous gift of Freiburg´s twin town Matsuyama, Capital of the Ehime Prefecture on Shikoku Island, Japan.
