Forests are of high value for many reasons. In particular near urban areas one aspect is the recreational value. The forest of Allschwil is used heavily for that purpose, by joggers and bikers, families coming here for grill parties, for people walking their dogs, etc. In this particular corner you find mainly beech (Fagus sylvatica L.), but also oak (Quercus robur L.), in other parts also needle trees such as spruce (Picea abies Karst) and other species.
