Medellín is a small town with a long story behind.

I wanted to travel there for several reasons, and I was not deceived at all. It's undeservedly little known - maybe due to the magnificence of its more famous neighbour, Mérida.

Medellín has been the birthplace of important historical characters, like Hernán Cortés, the Conquistador, the most famous of them all.

Medellín has preserved some rich remains of its architectural past, something quite surprising taking into account the many wars and battles it had to endure. The bridge over the Guadiana river, dating fom the XVIIth century in it's current form, the medieval castle -a roman and even pre-roman site, then visigoth and moorish-, several gorgeous small churches, and on the slopes under the castle an splendid roman theater only recently excavated (2007) where some of the fine sculptures that embellished it were found. To get a better idea of how the theater might have looked back in it's time, press here.
