For the best of 2005 event I decided to shoot a panoramic view from the top of the Kangaroo Ground Memorial Tower, which is approximately 25 kilometers from the city of Melbourne. If you zoom in on the opening shot you can see the tall buildings of the Melbourne central business district on the horizon. Simon Maguire will have shot his panorama from one of these buildings for his best of 2005 entry.

The Kangaroo Ground Memorial Tower was built in 1926 to commemorate those from the local area who died during the 1914-18 World War.

Whilst the tower is still a war memorial, it has also been used by fire watchers since 1948 and has become part of the Country Fire Authority's fire watching network, being instrumental in saving lives and bushland.
