Ashford Castle - On the shores of Lough Corrib in Ireland. Established 1228 - Yes, 1228! In 1951, the director John Ford came to the west of Ireland to film what would become a movie classic "The Quiet Man". Many of the films stars stayed at Ashford - including John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. And now - you can stay there as well! Many of the film scenes were shot in the locality of the castle and in Cong. Many of these locations are preserved and can be visited.
