A typical scene in the centre of Amsterdam. It is early afternoon on an April day of sunshine and showers.

We were eating lunch in an excellent vegetarian restaurant just by this bridge. It is called De Bolhoed and I can heartily recommend it. If you walked over this bridge coming from the direction of Central Station it would be on your left.

While they were making the dessert I popped out and shot this panorama on the bridge that leads from Prinsenstraat to Prinsen Gracht.

In the minute or so that it took me to shoot the images for the panorama all manner of cyclists and pedestrians passed back and forth over the bridge. I captured only a few of them in this panorama.

You might also spot a tourist cruiser approaching the bridge along the canal.
Prints from The Netherlands are available from my print-on-demand service.

I have also made this and other Photographs of The Netherlands available as:

Equipment

Equipment: The source images were taken with a Canon EOS 5D Mk II, Zenitar 16mm fisheye f/2.8 lens. The camera was hand held using a string tied around the pivotal point of the lens, with a small weight dangling to the ground, as a guide to position. (This allowed me to travel light, without a tripod.)

Horizontal photographs were taken at roughly 45° angles and also two ground shots and a sky shot. Each "shot" consisted of three bracketed exposures from +2 to -2 stops.

A total of 33 separate images were combined using Hugin in order to achieve this High Dynamic Range type result.
