Caption
The Canyon Road Farolito Walk is a Christmas Eve tradition in Santa Fe that begins at dusk and is extremely popular. Untold thousands of farolitos (small sand-filled paper bags illuminated by tea candles and lit by hand) adorn the courtyards, gardens, adobe walls and rooflines along Canyon Road and provide a flickering glow that burns well into the night. The street becomes crowded, even shoulder-to-shoulder, and the pace along the cobblestones and uneven sidewalks is slow-moving but manageable due to the universal holiday spirit.
