Underground Atlanta is a combination of the old and the new. After the 1920's,
a series of viaducts were constructed over the post-bellum business blocks.
They bridged nearby railroad tracks and relieved congestion in the downtown area.
Eventually, the city grew up and around the viaducts sealing the area.
After being abandoned for decades, they were redeveloped for commercial use in the 60's and
70's and today provide a home for over 100 street vendors, stores, restaurants, and night clubs.
