A few weeks ago a friend of my son and daughter died in a tragic sporting accident. He was 22 and represented the UK in his chosen sport. A week later a local family man committed suicide. He was 33 and had two young children.

Many faiths and religions of the world offer some comfort in these situations, a sense of crossing to the other side, whether it be heaven or hell or re-incarnation.

What will be left of us when we've left?
When we've gone down into the darkness of earth and memory.
When our dust and ashes have shaken themselves down and reverted to their orginal state.
What will be left of us when we've left?
What traces will we leave?
Will the evidence be compelling?
What will the survivng witnesses say?
How will they know we were here?

Will the future be better because of what we did with our present?
How long does it take to make a difference?
When can I start?
What will history say of us when we are history too?
What will be left of us when we've left?
