Camp d'Elx: for a quiet and relaxed atmosphere.
I have related the term atmosphere to the special mood of a place. This pano, shot at 6m height, shows a blooming
orange tree grove at dusk in the local rural district of Daimes, in Elche.
Elche's main urban area is surrounded by 30 rural districts. These are known as Camp d'Elx: Elche Countryside. This is a typical Mediterranean countryside which still keeps ancient land watering methods by means of water-channels inherited from the Arabs.
It is a rich agricultural zone and among some of the most typical products cultivated here are orange, lemon,
pomegranate, olive, almond and fig trees, melons, artichokes, broad beans or asparagus. A particular characteristic of Camp d'Elx is the inclusion of the typical date palm tree as a very important element in the design of the
groves.
What makes Elche Countryside special to me, is how by just moving a few km away from the 21st century fast-moving city centre you will find yourself completely transported to a more relaxed and quiet atmosphere that somehow seems to move at a different pace.
Picture location and production by Antonio V. Garcia-Serrano. Picture companion (while reaping oranges) Sonia
