Caption
The 2,571 foot (784 m) East Peak of Mount Tamalpais often sits overlooking the weather of the entire San Francisco Bay Area. Any time of year, but especially in the summer, one can see the advection fog coming in from the Pacific Ocean and rolling over Mt. Tam. It slides in through the Golden Gate and over the famous Golden Gate Bridge. It also pours over the Marin Hills to the north of the peak and often changes the temperature by as much as 50°F (27°C), changing the day from blistering heat to needing a sweater in the early afternoon.
