Amsterdam is a bicycle city. Estimates tell that there are as much bicycles as there are Amsterdammers and they are favoured by bike thieves. About 10% of the bikes will be stolen and there is a special central store place where all the stolen and found and confiscated bikes are parked and compared to the register of the police and delivered back to the owner. When no owner is found, after 3 months of no reclaim the bikes are sold to African countries.
Biking is important for the city, it improves the air quality, lessens traffic jams and makes it easier to be in time at your appointment. And it improves your health and is a very sustainable means of transport. Most people that live in the old centre use their bike regularly. There are special bike paths with a total length of 400 km (about 220 miles).
This panorama is taken in front of the Central Station where there is a 4-story high bike parking boat. People can park their bike here and take the train or enter the city by foot.
About the theme, every bike is different, even if they are of the same brand and type they are personalised with bags, saddles, lamps and more.
