In Quebec, water is everywhere and deeply shapes the landscape. The region is home to thousands of lakes, powerful rivers, and a vast hydrographic network dominated by the Saint Lawrence River. This abundance largely comes from its glacial history, which carved out basins that are now filled with fresh water.
The boreal forests and wetlands also play a crucial role by filtering and regulating this resource. Water is part of everyday life, both for ecosystems and for energy production, with hydroelectric power representing a major share of Quebec’s electricity.
This richness in water gives Quebec a unique landscape, where one constantly moves between rivers, lakes, and shorelines, reminding us that water is not just present there—it structures the entire territory
