More typical Dutch landscape than these river forelands, is hardly imagineable. Ages ago Holland was merely a delta flooded almost continuously. By building dykes along these rivers, the Dutch created their own habitat. In winter the water will get as far as the winter dykes. In summer it won't get any further than the summer dykes. In between lay the forelands. Looking so natural, so unspoiled. Yet they are man made.
