The Danish Graveyards are famous for their garden like design. None of the neighboring countries looks like them and I do not know any other country in the world with garden cemeteries as the Danish.

Most of the Danish graveyards are constructed after 1800. Before that the noble and also some rich people where buried under the floor in the church but this was forbidden by law in 1805.

When they had to be buried on the graveyard they wanted to have a special area for each grave and they also designed it as a small garden. The habit was then spread also among ordinary people.

Dansk: Kirkegårde i Danmark er kendte for deres smukke havedesign. Ikke i noget andet nordisk land findes gravpladser i stil med de Danske.
