We are in front of the Palacio de Cristal, in the Parque del buen Retiro, in Madrid. Ricardo Velázquez Bosco designed this building in 1887, in occasion of the Philippine Islands Exhibition to show flowers and plants from this old Spanish Colony. Nowadays this greenhouse holds various exhibitions of contemporary art, and in the moment of shooting there was the odd exposition of Kimsooja - mirror women, consisting of the empty space, mirrors on the floor and a monotone music. The stairs below us drive to the lake where you can see turtles, ducks and carps. They have assumed the human as the feeder, as have done too the pigeons. Around them you can see bald cypress (Taxodium distichum) with the roots and part of the trunk submerged. Nearby the Palace there is plenty of horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum). As a big green area in the middle of Madrid, the Retiro Park gets full of families and tourist all day long relaxing, reading, chatting and walking.
