Fortunately, I was visiting the excavations of Pompeii, Italy on the first day of this WWP event. This panorama was photographed in the garden of the House of Venus in the shell, which is named after the painting on the south wall. The center panel of the painting features the goddess Venus lying in a seashell. (Ironically, Venus is described as the protectress of Pompeii. While this painting of her survived the volcanic eruption of Vesuvio in 79 AD, the city of Pompeii did not.) For more information about the excavations of Pompeii visit http://www.pompeiisites.org. Even better, plan to visit Pompeii if you can. I think those who have been there will agree that it's one of those rare places where you feel that you can reach back in time. I hope you enjoy this panorama.
