While the CN Tower, at 553 meters, remains as the highest elevation in Southern Ontario I decided to choose a subject of historical importance.

The Trent-Severn Waterway connects the towns of Trenton and Port Severn via a series of inland rivers and lakes. It was once a portage route for the many small villages along it's path. In order for boats to navigate the changes in elevation a series of 45 Locks was constructed along it's 386 km length.

Lock 41 is located in the hamlet of Gamebridge. Built in 1906 it has an elevation difference of 4.5 meters. It is the first of 5 manual locks in an 8 km stretch that rise to overcome an elevation of 22.2 meters.

Today both the lock and surrounding park are a National Historic site.
