Numerous waterfalls can be visited in the area surrounding Ithaca, New York, but the one at Ludlowville differs from the others in at least two ways, making it unique (to my knowledge).

First, it faces away from nearby Lake Cayuga, which was carved by glaciers during the most recent ice age. After the ice retreated, a number of hanging valleys existed, which resulted in water eroding old sedimentary rock into waterfalls as various streams and rivers continued to flow into the lake. The Ludlowville Falls, though, formed as its Salmon Creek flowed away from lake, at least in this location.

Second, the top of the falls is easily accessible, despite the rather abrupt edge and long drop to the bottom.
