Lover's Locks
A Unique display of love on the Corktown Bridge in Ottawa, Ontario Canada.

The Corktown Footbridge is a pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Rideau Canal a UNESCO World Heritage Site and National Historic Site of Canada The bridge connects Somerset Street west with Somerset Street east, Centretown Ottawa with the University of Ottawa and Sandy Hill.

The tradition where lovers fasten a padlock to a bridge or other permanent structure and then dispose of the key represents an everlasting commitment of love and is a lasting remembrance between two people.

The “love locks” have become a common sight as a global symbol of a couple’s love on bridges, fences, and poles in cities across Europe, North America and Asia.

Through the long cold Ottawa winters where the temperature can be minus 30 degrees Celsius with snow, sleet and freezing rain to summers with plus 30 degree temperatures these locks stand the 'Canadian test of time'.

I cross this bridge twice a day (to and from work) and no matter the weather I always enjoy the view north towards Parliament and the Chateau Laurier.

The Corktown bridge has become a must visit for many tourists visiting Ottawa. One day last summer a film crew from Bollywood was using the bridge as a set for a movie.
