The Emperor's car was built in Germany in 1870 for the Grand Duke of Finland — the Tsar Alexander II of Russia. The interior of the car was decorated with dark green goatskin leather, light American hickory and silk. The Empress's car and the saloon carriage were later built in Finland.

They served last time in August 1914, on Empress Dowager Maria Fedorovna's way back form London to St.Petersburg. These three cars are the only remaining Russian Imperial train cars which survived the Russian revolution.

Now the imperial train is on display at the Finnish Railway Museum in Hyvinkää, Finland.
