In 2006 Olten, Switzerland celebrates the 150 year anniversary of the railway in the town. The Schweizerische Centralbahn (SCB) started railways in Switzerland with the central point in Olten. In the main station you can still find the 0-Punkt-Stein, which was a mark for the center of all rails. It shows the number zero and the Swiss-cross. Distances were measured in way-hours starting with the Olten zero point. In the year 1877, European countries defined the meter as the main unit to measure distances. The SCB redifined the distance designation. The center of all rails changed to Basel. Today the main station of Olten is an important node in the swiss railnet. The main lines from east to west and from north to south cross in this station. More information can be found at: http://www.eisenbahn-in-olten.ch/de/tourismus/ (in German only - sorry)
