Some of the loneliest places I know are actually the places with most traffic, where transportation is at its best - transport subjects from A to B and do it as quickly as possible. Cars and buses just whiz by, and people walk briskly without ever lifting their gaze from the sidewalk.

This is a pedestrian bridge in one of the busiest parts of Belgrade, where the highway crosses two busy boulevards; but it was shot on Sunday night, sometime before midnight, when the traffic has waned, and what little was left of it can be seen only as flickering ghosts in the panorama. Lonely place indeed.
