The Jordaan Festival is held every year in September and has its roots in the small, historical Jordaan quarter of Amsterdam (or Mokum
, as the locals say). During three days, a colorful and often very loud mix of local amateur-Caruso's, pub singers and accomplished musical artists crowd the stage to present the Dutch levenslied
(sentimental songs about life and its happier and sadder moments) in all its variations.
