Minneapolis has the coldest average temperature of any major metropolitan area in the U.S. Due to the cold weather and snow, the city has developed a system of enclosed, climate controlled pedestrian bridges linking the downtown buildings. The 69-block, 7-mile system is the largest continuous skyway system in the world. Located at Crystal Court in the IDS Center, the skyway intersection pictured here is a major pedestrian crossroads.
