We live on the slopes of the Schönberg. That's a hill which contains (among other interesting geology) some meager iron ore. From 1937 to 1942, when the NS-regime aimed for industrial self-reliance, they established a mining plant and dug about 40 km galleries into the hill. The plant was closed in 1942 because of better supply from the freshly seized mines in Lothringen.

After the war most of the buildings where destroyed, the last ones vanished in 1980. Most of the pits where filled or closed, the aerial cableways dismantled and the industry grounds turned into residential area.

Only few remains are still visible. The entrance of the so called "Eisenbahnstollen" (railway gallery) being one of the most prominent, showing that fresco in best NS-realistic heroic manner. Others are some overgrown concret parts of the cableway or of ore silos in the forest.
