A branch of the United States Department of the Interior, the National Park Service was created in 1916 and manages 413 areas covering 84 million acres. With a budget of 2.98 billion dollars, there are 22,000 paid employees including permanent, temporary, and seasonal, with an additional 221,000 volunteers. There were 307,247,252 visitors in 2015. Yellowstone became the first National Park on March 01, 1872.
