Nightwatch 3D

Nightwatch 3D was created 400 years after the world famous artist, Rembrandt, was born in Leiden. It was transported from Moscow to Holland to be part of the celebrations around the Rembrandt year 2006. An ambitious project in bronze, which will bring to life 22 characters from Rembrandt’s painting. This masterpiece was completed by the artist in 1642.

The transformation of this two dimensional image into a three dimensional one will add a new reality to the Nightwatch and for the first time make visible the other side of the figures depicted in the most famous of Dutch paintings. This project was conceived and realized by two friends; Mikhail Dronov, of Moscow, and Alexander Taratynov, now living in Maastricht.

In other words these sculptures cross the border between 2D and 3D. The painter normally stands before his painting. At the Rembrandtsquare in Amsterdam Rembrandt is watching his 'painting' from the back. His statue stands behind the bronze sculptures. Also the viewer crosses the border of the painting. Now the viewer can stand at all sides of the 'painting', even in the 'painting'!

Nachtwacht 3D is gecreëerd 400 jaar nadat 's werelds beroemdste kunstenaar, Rembrandt, geboren werd in Leiden. Het werd getransporteerd van Moskou naar Nederland om deel te nemen aan de vieringen rondom het Rembrandtjaar 2006. Een ambitieus project in brons, wat 22 figuren van Rembrandt's schilderij tot leven brengt. Het meesterwerk werd in 1642 voltooid door de meester.

De transformatie van deze tweedimensionale afbeelding naar een driedimensionale voegt een nieuwe realiteit toe aan de Nachtwacht en voor de eerste keer wordt de andere kant van de figuren van het bekendste Nederlandse schilderij zichtbaar. Dit project is bedacht en gerealiseerd door twee vrienden; Mikhail Dronov, uit Moskou, en Alexander Taratynov, woonachtig in Maastricht.

In andere woorden gaan deze beelden de grens over tussen 2D en 3D. Normaal staat de schilder voor zijn schilderij. Op het Rembrandtplein in Amsterdam bekijkt Rembrandt zijn 'schilderij' vanaf de achterkant. Zijn standbeeld staat achter de bronzen figuren. Ook de toeschouwer gaat de grens over van het schilderij. Hij kan nu aan alle kanten van het 'schilderij' staan, zelfs er tussenin!
