December has been a full and difficult month. A time when I really needed a pause to what was happening all around me.

My office in Emeryville moved to Berkeley during my department's busiest time. The same week I contracted a client for a freelance job the had a very tight turn-around deadline. I was feeling some pressure with looming deadlines and the holidays.

During the weekend of the move I went to a friends house for a welcome back party, she's been traveling for 18 months around the world. I ended up with food poisoning Saturday night. It was so violent that I still haven't been really eating. Sunday I was supposed to go and clean the gutters from my parents' house, I was still so sick that I was sending Landis in my stead. At the last minute I decided to go with to visit with my father, whose health has been in decline for the past two years. I figured we could be invalids together. He did not look well. On Monday evening my father passed in his home, 17 December 2007. He was 70 years old and 18 days before his 71st birthday.

The time since his passing has been difficult. We have done many things associated with the funeral, 27 December 2007, ourselves. When the tribute for the Solstice came I was really ready for a pause. Landis and I went outside our house and walked in the cold night to one of our bridges to appreciate the Solstice, to pause and photograph the night as well as reflect. It was a beautiful night.
