A stunning sandstone rock formation, carved primarily by wind, in the Paria Wilderness of northern Arizona.

As of October, 2009, access to the area is controlled by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), which only permits 20 people per day to hike in to the area. Permits are issued via lottery. Permits for 10 individuals are issued via online lottery, requiring application three months in advance. The remaining 10 permits are issued via walk-in lottery at the ranger station the morning prior to permit valid date.

More information can be found on the BLM web site.

This is a desert wilderness area, and hikers should be prepared for all the dangers and complications associated with wilderness desert travel.
