An old postcard issued a century ago shows the humble crossroads of Pirogovskaya embankment and Liteyny Bridge (former Alexander II Bridge) on the right bank of the Neva river.

Nowadays crossroads with semicircular handrails and pedestrian passage near the river was built during the bridge's reconstruction 50 years ago. Today building enterprise "PILON" constructs a new tunnel under the Liteyny Bridge, which is scheduled to finish in December, 2010.

"Soon, a tender will be announced on building another facility of this kind — under Sampsonievsky Bridge. Thus, a speedway from the will-be Orlovskiy Tunnel to the Primorskiy Prospekt can be formed by the end of 2011", reported regional newspaper "Ekonomika I Vremya [Economics and Time]" May 2010.
