This is Mill Ruins Park on the Mississippi riverfront in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Located in the historic west-side milling district, the 19th-century ruins are the remains of what was the largest water powered facility in the world at the time. learn more here

The Stone Arch Bridge also has an interesting history. "It is the only bridge of its kind over the Mississippi River. It is made of native granite and limestone, and measures 2100 feet long by 28 feet wide. The bridge consists of 23 arches, and spans the river below Saint Anthony Falls in Minneapolis. Built by railroad baron James J. Hill in 1883, the bridge allowed for increased movement of people and goods across the river. It served as a working railroad bridge until 1965 but is still seen as a symbol of the railroad age. Rehabilitation of this National Historic Engineering Landmark began in 1980." (quoted from http://www.nps.gov/miss/maps/model/sabridge.html )

There are some interesting details in this VR panorama, such as the Gold Medal Flour sign, a grain elevator, and the North Star Blankets sign. These are local icons from an era that has passed but they remain right in downtown. There are some other interesting signs nearby, but that is for a different panorama.

This was an interesting panorama to shoot because it involved some different techniques from my previous works. I wanted a true black & white film look so I used film instead of digital. Also, it is a multi-row panorama. The sky and ground were not too interesting so I only shot 2 rows. This was shot on 35mm Ilford Delta 100 with a 24mm 2.8 lens on a Nikon FA with MD-15 motor drive. The tripod head was a 303SPH on a Bogen 3021BPRO Tripod. I scanned the film on a Canon Lide 80 scanner with film adapter (ick!). Software was Stitcher, Photoshop CS, Cubic Converter and Cubic Connector. Describing the workflow makes me shudder just typing it.
