Back in 2002 we decided Cancun was a great work/holiday destination. Adventures awaited like scuba and snorkle diving, visiting historical ruins, climbing pyramids and underground caves (water filled cenotes). People were friendly. Generally, Cancun is a safe holiday destination. We learned flying first class was better than coach. We have learned that Fall visits are preferable to encountering too many tourists in the Spring.

By 2012 we had visited all of the 'side tour' locations. In this panorama taken at the North End of the Hotel Zone [Zona Hotelera] at Kilometer 9 you will see the notable Caracol Shopping center, Rui Hotel, Xcaret tourist pickup area, Fiesta American Hotel, The Krystal Hotel and an assortment of Oxxo drug store, travel agency and the Plaza la Fiesta Mexican Outlet shopping store. Behind the store fronts is the Cancun Convention Center. Be sure to tilt down to see the map on the tripod cap.

All this sounds like a travel agency sales pitch. But from where we sit... it is really a grand destination based on a personal 10 year history of annual work/ holidays. It deserves to be the Best of 2012 entry.
