Caption
Grandview Lookout Tower was built in 1936 as one of several fire lookout towers built by the Civilian Conservation Corps across the Kaibab National Forest. Prior to these towers, forest fire watches were done from horseback. This tower is located just outside the boundaries of Grand Canyon National Park approximately 3 miles South of the South Rim.

The tower is an 80' (24m) open frame steel tower with a 7' (2.1m) square box cabin on the top where the fire observer would keep watch. Also built at the same time is a two-room cabin directly North of the Tower.

The panorama was taken from the top landing below the cabin as the access was locked. Due North can be seen the drop-off of the Grand Canyon's South Rim with the higher North Rim beyond it.

The complex was added to the National Register of Historic Places on 1/28/88.
