The etymology of the word "Sauna" is uncertain. That hasn't bothered the millions who enjoy the virtues of the hot (and sometimes very hot) air. Particularly popular in the Nordic countries, it has been exported to the rest of Europe, North America and Russia.

The temperature can reach 80° or even higher in the dry sauna, while being still bearable. In the humid hammam however the temperature is only 40°, since the humidity would scald at a higher temperature.
