Coteau-du-Lac is a small town at the South-West of Quebec at the shore of St Lawrence River. By the end of 18th century the locked canal and the fort to protect the waterway had been built here to let the boats to bypass the rapids. This canal construction work was the first work of this kind in the North America. This waterway was a predecessor of the St Lawrence waterway and played a huge role in development of river transportation along the main route into inland North America.
