Caption
UCLA operates the Hannah Carter Japanese Garden, which is a little more than one acre (0.4 hectares) in size, snuggled amongst posh estates in Bel Air, California. Reservations for an hour-long visit are required.

According to the UCLA's web site, Kyoto gardens inspired this garden, and many of its components were imported from Japan. Some of the stone carvings are antiques, although the garden itself dates only to 1959.

You can read more about the meaning and significance of Japanese Gardens themselves and the stones, plants, design, and layout at the Garden's symbolism page.
