Stanage Edge isn't so far away from Sheffield, I was stood on the top taking panoramas half an hour after leaving home.

This is a gritstone escarpment, extremely popular with climbers, some you can see sitting on the edge a few hundred metres away. In the distance you can see the Hope Valley with Mam Tor on the horizon.

Closer-in towards the stands of trees is the part of Hathersage which formed the landscape of Jane Eyre, just hidden by the trees is North Lees Hall which Charlotte Brontë apparently used as the model for Thornfield. Presumably Hallam Moor which can be seen by turning around was the location of Jane's flight after leaving Thornfield.
