Caption
Stone circles are common in the North East of Scotland and most are situated on an elevated position. Ardlair is on an open hilltop with commanding views over the Aberdeenshire countryside. It is a recumbent stone circle and is not complete. Some of the stones have fallen over or have been moved. The area in which it lies is rich in prehistory monuments. In a field below the hill are two standing stones, one with pictish carvings on it which may have formed part of another stone circle. Also in the panorama is the Tap o’ Noth the site of an Iron Age hill fort. It is the hill that is almost conical in formation with an adjoining long ridge hill, the Hill o’ Noth. In the valley to the North you can see the Admore distillery. Most of it's production goes to making blended whisky but a small amount is bottled and sold as a single malt.
