Caption
This ossuary is located on the northern side of St. Margaret's Chapel in Epfig, piled up at the wall of the nave. Most probably these bones originate from graveyards in the proximity which had been given up, or from the graveyard surrounding the chapel, dug out when it had reached its limits. But legend has it that these are the remains of peasants who died in the battle of Scherwiller in 1525 during the Peasants' War.
