West Norwood Cemetery is one of the Magnificent Seven cemeteries established in London in the 19th century to ease overcrowding in parish burial grounds as the city's population grew rapidly.

The cemetery is famous for its many monumental tombstones, mausoleums, Greek necropolis and its catacombs, which are sadly no longer open to the general public due to their dilapidated condition, except for occasional openings.

Many notable inventors, engineers, architects, builders, artists, entertainers and medics are buried in the cemetery.

With grateful thanks to the Friends of West Norwood Cemetery.
