On my daily commute I pass a small grove of trees out in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by plowed dirt and then crops in some years, and in others by a simple hayfield.

When the weeds and other vegetation dies back, it's evident that this island-in-a-field is left untouched because it's a graveyard.

On closer inspection, one finds a couple of 19th-Century stone slabs. Leaning. Eroding. Abandoned. Uncared-for.

Some say that you live forever as long as people remember you and speak your name.

If that is the case, I suspect the people buried here have become mortal, for it is evident that no one cares for their graves. It seems likely that no one speaks their names any longer.

Here is the stone's inscription:

Andrew Son
Of Howard & Lucy
Edminster Died March
18 1824 E 5 Y .
& Howard His Brother
Died Oct 25 1825
E . 4 . . VI .

& An Infant
Died June 1816
E 6 . D

An Internet search of these names turned up Old Farm Cemetery, a web page devoted to this graveyard.
