Caption
On the morning of September 11, 2001, 19 terrorists from al Qaeda hijacked four commercial airplanes. They crashed two into the World Trade Centers Twin Towers in New York City, and the third in the Pentagon in Virginia. The forth crashed into a field in Pennsylvania after the passengers attempted to regain control of the plane. 2,977 people were killed that morning including more than 400 first responders who died trying to save the victims.

New York City’s 9/11 Memorial opened on the 10th anniversary of the attacks. It consists of two pools built on the footprints of the original towers. The names of all the victims are inscribed on the walls that surround the pools.

Across from the pool, you can see the soon to be completed new 1 World Trade Center. At 1,776 feet tall it will be the tallest building in the United States
