The Aspen Thrift Shop has been run entirely by volunteers since it's inception in 1949. It was started as a way to raise money for the hospital and school. The Thrift Shop donates over $250,000 annually to local non-profit organizations and gives many high school scholarships.
Shown here is volunteer June Kirkwood selling a pair of shoes. At age 80 she is one of 75 regular volunteers. June is one of four lifetime members. Another, Alberta Moore, put in 30 years of service at the Thrift Shop before "retiring". Now, however, at age 90, she's back at it, working alongside her daughter-in-law and granddaughter.
The goods sold at the Thrift Shop are all community donations, usually left anonymously by the backdoor. Located across the street from Gucci and around the corner from Christian Dior, it is a bargain hunter's paradise.
