Caption
Valley Forge National Park, just outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is the site of the winter encampment of Gen. George Washington during the Revolutionary War. From December 1777 to June 1778, Washington and 12,000 men trained and prepared for continued fighting in the spring. The National Park commemorates the men and women who fought in the Revolutionary War, as well as the estimated 2000 men who died (mostly from disease) at Valley Forge.
