Decades of History

Malvern is a fantastic place live, such a diverse area, from old and historic to new and modern. The Malvern hills form a natural boundary between Herefordshire and Worcestershire, two very different counties. It is due to all this that over the last ten years I have shot two thirds of my Worldwide Panorama submissions from within 12 miles of home (and quite a few not too far over this either).

Malvern is just so full of history. From Sir Edward Elgar and Malvern Water to Morgan Cars and the Hills themselves. Some of them I shot by myself while others it was a day out with the family, all of them holding memories for me. This isn't either the first famous grave in Malvern I've submitted. First there was Sir Edward Elgar and then there was Dr. Peter Mark Roget. This submission shows the grave of Anne Darwin, the second child and eldest daughter of Charles and Emma Darwin.

In 1849 Anne, along with her two sisters, caught scarlet fever. After this her health declined and in a vain attempt Charles brought her to Malvern for Dr Gullys water cure. Unfortunately on the 23rd April 1851, at the age of 10, she died. Charles wrote "We have lost the joy of the household, and the solace of our old age". Her grave now sits within graveyard showing decades of decay.

Taken with a Nikon D300 and a Nikkor 10.5mm f/2.8G fisheye lens. Mounted on a Nodal Ninja 5 panoramic head and R-D16 rotator atop a Manfrotto 055XPROB tripod. 7 bracketed shots (-3 -2 -1 0 +1 +2 +3) taken at 6 positions 60° apart, tilted 15° down and another set of shots taken looking straight up. Raw files then processed in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.3 before being stitched together using PTGui Pro 10.0 beta 3 and converted using Pano2VR 4.5 beta 2.
