Strassburg is located in the Gurk valley in Carinthia. The castle, whose origins date back to the 12th century, towers on the hill above the village. It was extended and altered several times and served as the residence of the bishops of Gurk for 500 years. In the 17th century, the castle was converted into a Baroque residence. The two-storey arcades were built between 1680 and 1690. After an earthquake in 1767, the castle gradually fell into disrepair. The castle was only restored in the 1950s and now houses a museum and a restaurant.
