Heated public debates about the pension reform in France culminated in a series of strikes and manifestations that hit the country in autumn 2010.

One of the biggest manifestations (or “manif” as they call it in French) was organised on September 7. Eight major syndicates brought hundreds of thousands (1.12 million according to police figures, 2.7 million – after the union leaders) on streets across the country to protest against raising the retirement age from 60 to 62.

In Paris, the manifestation went through three main squares that are all symbolically connected to the French Republic and Revolution – it started at the Place de la Republique, passed through the Place de la Bastille and ended at the Place de la Nation. For over four hours the human stream had filled the streets of the city, united in spirit and pace. Singing, talking, shouting, playing music, dancing, carrying placards, handing out leaflets and stickers, making spontaneous performances - the protestants inspired each and everyone to join the protest…

They say that revolution is in the blood of the French and having seen it, you could easily believe so!
