Kashgar (also known in Chinese as Kashi) is China's westernmost city on the Karakoram Highway in the border province of Xinjiang. This oasis town on the edge of the Taklamakan Desert was a trading post on the old Silk Road where goods have been traded for more than 2,000 years.

In Kashgar Old Town, the view shows part of the famous international market streets across from the nearby Idkah Mosque. The markets are open every day with Sunday being the largest. Farmers and merchants set up on the sidewalks to sell their products and people are out shopping. It's early evening with the sun setting low and highlighting a busy and colorful street market. Kashgar is now a city of about half a million people.
