My friend Martin is busy renovating his flat in Tooting. The flat is in a row of terraced houses built in the year 1903. The houses were built of London brick and mortar, with timber frames, lath and plaster walls, and open fireplaces in every room.
Some interesting artefacts have been found during the renovation works, including some pre-First World War cigarette packets and a 1903 penny coin bearing the head of King Edward VII. Various timbers around the flat were found to be personally signed in pencil by the craftsmen who constructed them.
